The Historical Distance
2018 - On going
Video, documentation
8:24
The Historical Distance is documentaries from site-specific performances* that took place in front of Branicki Palace, used to known as Versailles of Poland. The other site is the iconic theater of Berlin, Volksbuhne.
For a young person who comes from far and different cultures, standing in front of these historical and culturally significant buildings inspired me to do this performance. I used aluminum foil and try to roll down a carpet towards the building, create a thin narrow path through the landscape.
I consider this performance a practice of meditation, gradually and slowly step forward while facing my own reflection. Moreover, it is a personal way to perceive history. I want to use my biological body to count the steps, measure the distance between myself and the space, a human being and a symbolic construction, East and West, past and present…
